Program for Research and Training on Eastern Europe and the Independent States of the Former Soviet Union (Title VIII)

Each year the Department of State, Bureau of Intelligence and Research, Office of Outreach, invites organizations with substantial experience in administering research and training programs to apply for funding that will support nationwide competitive programs for U.S. scholars and students conducting research and language training in the countries of Eastern Europe and Eurasia. These programs seek to support and sustain American expertise on these countries. American Councils encourages grantees receiving Title VIII funding to pursue U.S. Government career opportunities, internships, or short-term sabbaticals after completing their awards, and to otherwise bring their research to the service of the U.S. Government.  Additionally, American Councils urges scholars to present their research findings at national conferences, universities, roundtables and government agencies. Scholars are also encouraged to further promote their research findings through publications in academic journals, websites and monographs that are available to government officials and the public.

American Councils for International Education has been administering such programs for over 20 years.
